Hello
I am Wendy Sims-Moten, 40-year resident of Santa Barbara Community and I am running for Mayor to bring leadership, transparency, and a renewed focus on the needs of our residents. The care and education of our children is crucial to the future of our City. I believe our city’s future depends on strong, accountable governance that reflects the voices of all. I believe deeply that leadership is about service, relationships and responsibility. Because leadership is not about the seat you hold-it’s about the people you hold space for. I promise to lead with heart, lead with integrity, and lead with the belief that every member of our community matters.
My Story
I am deeply invested in the growth and prosperity of our community. I have worked for the County of Santa Barbara for over 30 years. I started my career in the County General Services Department in 1996 and worked my way up through to my current position of Executive Director of First 5 Santa Barbara County. I also served on the original Santa Barbara County Employee University Governing Council and served as a mediator in the County’s Mediation program.
My civic engagements are diverse and numerous, ranging from the President of Board of Trustees of Santa Barbara Unified School District, Organizer and Chair for the African American Women Luncheon of Santa Barbara County, Board Member of CAUSE Action Fund, Board Chair of Gateway Educational Services, Board Member of the McCune Foundation, Alumni of Emerging Leaders, and trustee of St. Paul AME Church. This background has prepared me to address the challenges we face—whether it’s improving public safety, expanding affordable housing, or enhancing our schools.
I invite you to join me in moving our city from I to We to Us a Beautiful Santa Barbaraa that is safe, vibrant, and fair for everyone. I am ready to listen, act, and lead with integrity. Let’s work together to make our city the best it can be.
